Types of Therapy
Individual Psychotherapy
Individual counseling is offered in a completely private and comfortable setting. Together we will explore the issues in your life that you want to change. Using a structured approach you will find the sessions are productive as well as supportive. This process is not binding or limiting; rather supportive of on-going awareness and personal growth. Generally the process includes problem identification and focus so that you can more clearly use your efforts to bring resolution to your issues. I will share information I have developed about emotions, what causes them and how to deal with them. Together we will explore the negative communications patterns that people develop when they don't know how to be intimate emotionally. Once these patterns (scripts) are identified you will truly have a choice in how you interact with others.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is often the next step after script work has been completed in individual therapy. My groups are small and confidential. Typically, I limit the size of group to six members. The group will meet for up to one and one half hours. Group provides support from people with similar issues. Group often permits us to see our issues and solutions through the work of others.
Benefits of group include:
Experience how others have resolved or are resolving issues similar to your own.
Work on your issues in a safe supportive environment. Affords the opportunity to work on your social skills in a safe environment Realization that you are not alone Making new friend Reduced fee rate
Couples and Family Psychotherapy
My approach to couples therapy is typically an adjunct to individual counseling. The operative definition of intimacy is candid, game free, open honest communication between two people who feel good about themselves as individuals and choose to be together. With an attitude of problem solving rather than blaming, results occur when both parties understand their own individual issues, needs and wants.
